I put my hair in a huge tight ballerina bun on the top of my head. I wore a knee length black dress with a lace overlay. It was sleeveless with a high neck and open back that showed off my Serathari birth mark. I wore four inch heels with sufficient strappage to keep them on my feet if âthings got messy.â Alexarchos wore a beautiful black suit with a blood red tie. We looked powerful. I finally understand his obsession with us wearing all black.
He handed me a rectangular jewelry box with a red ribbon. Inside was a delicate ruby and diamond tennis bracelet. He took it from the box and put it on my wrist. There were matching earrings, and a pendant necklace. When he was done, I was dripping in real jewelry.
âWhen we are in that room you can look at your wrist and know that I love you more than anything, Okay?â He looked at me and smiled. We were still being careful to speak with our thoughts.
âI donât need expensive jewelry for that. But itâs all so beautiful, thank you. I love you.â I took his hands interlacing our fingers. âWill I be speaking?â
âNot today. Today is primarily for me to reassert my control over the disastrous situation that has developed here in my absence. It is also to present you as the heir of Demetrius. More than anything they need to remember why they were created, which was to serve Demetrius, and now to serve you. I do not feel that you understand the situation well enough to speak about it or respond if you are spoken to. Their general disrespect for you will be difficult enough for me to deal with, let alone if they decided to argue with you directly. Are you okay with this plan?â
âYes. I donât feel ready to speak. Iâm scared enough as it is.â
âDo not be scared, my love. You are infinitely more powerful than all of them combined. You are their Queen. They will respect you in time, we just need for it to be sooner than later.â I wrapped my arms around him and buried my head in his neck. He held me to him. When we parted, he kissed my forehead. I knew he was scared for me. I could tell that the situation was far worse than he had anticipated, but he wasnât going to tell me that.
The limo waited for us downstairs. I watched out the windows as we made our way through the city and I was surprised when I realized we were leaving.
âWeâre spending the day in the country.â Alexarchos answered out loud. I reached for his hand, but he shied away. He started speaking in thoughts, again. âI need for you to not do that calming thing to me today, Sera. I need to impart fear in my Warriors. I would like to hold your hand, though, as much as possible.â He took my hand and I didnât calm him. It was actually a challenge not to.
